The Sounds and Silences of Llansteffan
In March & April 2015 I was one of three artists selected for Site Sit’s pilot project, Village Halls, which sought to bring contemporary art to a rural community.
The Sounds & Silences of Llansteffan was presented as a mixed-media installation of photographs, research materials (including maps and a vinyl record) and an edition of 50 free mix CDs.
The 55-minute CD was a site-specific mix of songs, interviews, field recordings and personal narration. Rather than simply soundtracking the listener’s immediate surroundings, the CD attempted to highlight and confront the sounds and silences of Llansteffan, both past and present, with handmade letterpress artwork designed by Marta Dos Santos.
